We are working alongside Devon’s colleges and looking to promote the benefits of work placements and information on the placement coordinators and who is best to contact.
Your local college has students completing health and social care courses that need industry placements.
This can open opportunities for your staff to mentor and support the future workforce. This can also open doors for students working with you and look for employment after they finish their qualification.
Dartmoor Academy Trust, which is made up of Okehampton, Tavistock and Holsworthy colleges. The colleges have year 10 and year 12 students looking for work experience placements in social care. The colleges have a work experience week and would like to explore opportunities in social care for their students.
In Y10 they want students to engage with the world of work and a different professional environment to which they are accustomed to in school. By year 12 the students should be securing a placement that is directly linked to their ideas or plans about their future career.
If you are able to assist with offering placements, please contact the career leads below:
The Return to Practice course run at the University of Plymouth enables previously registered nurses to come back into the workforce in as little as 16 weeks. We are looking for Care Homes with nursing who would be interested in providing a placement for Return to Practice students who are required by the NMC to undertake 450 hours of supervised and assessed clinical practice. This can be part time or full time and the student could be in a paid HCA role with protected learning or supernumerary.
The potential benefit for your service is a registered nurse familiar with your care home, ready to join your team and there is funding of up to £1,500 to support this placement. You would be supported throughout by the University and the Clinical Placement Expansion team.
