Skills and values
There are a range of skills and values that are need for a maintenance role. These include:
- Good verbal, digital, written and numeracy skills
- Understanding or experience in social care settings
- Background of plumbing, as an electrician
- Good knowledge of health and safety in the workplace
Entry requirements
Although there are no set qualifications needed for entry level, previous experience in any of the above-mentioned areas may help. It is necessary to have good written, verbal and numeracy skills and where possible, some experience working in health or social care.

With more experience, you will be able to undertake more training to broaden your role. You may be able to do a qualification such as an apprenticeship so that you can continue earning and working while you study. There may be opportunities to progress into more senior maintenance roles, or you may be given the chance to work in a different part of the sector, such as a care assistant or personal assistant should you want to explore further afield.
